Our expedition with Path Patagonia surpassed all expectations. I thought it would be beautiful and adventurous, but it was both those things times ten! I also thought I would not be brave enough to meet all the challenges but I was wrong there as well. My friends and I may never feel as proud of ourselves as we did after rappelling over a 350 foot rock face! Rafting the rapids and hiking were amazingly energizing as well.
The natural beauty of Patagonia, the living water of the Futaleufu River, and the exuberant physical activity guided by the professional staff connected us all to our beautiful Earth and to each other. And every great day ended with a Pisco sour or cerveza in a wood fired hot tub, followed by dinner around a fire! What could possibly be better? Top that off by sleeping in a wooden tent with the sound of the river... ah the whole experience seems like a dream. All in all It was a once in a lifetime experience I absolutely plan to repeat.
Hey Robert!
I just wanted to tell you how much we all enjoyed the trip. You were a phenomenal host and all the guides were fantastic! I got emotional at goodbye because I’ve never done a trip in my adult life without my husband and the experience I had with my kids was unforgettable! I faced my fear of heights thanks to your persistence and encouragement- I felt stronger and more capable after that trip! I’m so proud of my kids for being such troopers as well.
I really feel your trip is a once in a lifetime experience. My kids and I will have memories that we’ll never forget. We absolutely loved it and had a blast!. Your country is beautiful, the people are kind and hospitable. Thank-you soooo much! I hope your business is a huge success. Best wishes to you and your guides.
The Futaleufu is one of my most favorite places in the world. I can’t express the magic of the crystal blue glacial water, the snow-capped peaks, the rainforest that cloaks the sides of the hills in green. Robert and his team have crafted the perfect trip to experience this natural wonderland and have a damn good time doing it. My first trip was in 2013 and upon returning to the states I immediately was thinking about how to go back. I finally did make it back to the Fu in 2015 and brought my family with me- everyone from my young cousin to my mom loved it. The rapids rival the grand canyon in size and fun. There is hiking, there is rappelling, there is zip lining, there is everything in this trip to make an adventure junkie like myself feel challenged and exhilarated everyday. And then there is great food and wine and a hot tub every night. It’s perfect. Robert and his team of guides are exceptionally safety conscious without making you feel like they are holding your hand. They also do great conservation work to keep this gorgeous place pristine and special. I can’t recommend this trip highly enough… and I can’t wait to get back there again!
I initially approached my Path Patagonia with trepidation. I was not an experience whitewater rafter, I found certain heights intimidating and had limited camping experience. My fears were unfounded and I experienced a profoundly beautiful, challenging and inspiring trip. Initially, the Futaleufu River and surrounding area is breathtakingly beautiful. The Fu’s colors, the sound of the rush of water and the surrounding landscape is magnificent. Nestled in the area are three camps, each unique and each offering a different vantage point to enjoy the River or the surrounding terrain. Each day we embarked on one or more activities- white water rafting, rappelling, hiking, kayaking or zip lining. With each, we received ample training from Robert and his seasoned crew to enable us to confidently enjoy and approach the challenge. Completing the level 5 rapids with my fellow crew members, conquering my fear of heights by rappelling down a steep cliff, hiking alongside Robert learning about the history of the Chile and relaxing in the hot tub after a full day of adventure made for more than just a memorable vacation. I learned to see and to appreciate a special area in this world. I also learned about myself and about freeing myself of self-imposed limitations. I wholeheartedly recommend Path Patagonia!
I was encouraged to join the trip to the Futaleufu by a friend. I agreed without a real understanding or appreciation for what was in store.
With every situation we encountered, I was struck by how exhilarating the experience was. At no time was I fearful, concerned, anxious or worried about my safety. Robert and his crew were experts at guiding us on the rafts, the trails, the climbing, rapelling, zip-lining, etc. The redundancy in safety procedures was very reassuring. And, it goes without saying that Patagonia is one of the most beautiful places on this earth.
There is nothing more fulfilling or gratifying than testing your limits with unfamiliar skills. Everyone should take this adventure!
Path Patagonia offers everything I look for in an outdoor vacation — the chance to unplug in a gorgeous setting and challenge myself in a safe environment. I was nervous about white water rafting for the first time, and the knowledgeable and friendly guides put me at ease and quickly built my rafting skills. Each ecologically-conscious camp offers a remarkable place to unwind, and the unique Futaleufú River and wonderful Path Patagonia team will always have a special place in my heart.
We traveled with Path Patagonia in early December, 2015. Our trip lasted a week and it was one of the most extraordinary trips I have ever been on, anywhere.
There were seven in our family group, my sister and her two children (aged 11 and 14), our daughter and her husband, and myself and my wife. There was one other couple in our river group as well.
This river and the surrounding country must be one of the most beautiful areas on God’s green earth. The river itself is this surreal color that is hard to explain. Robert Currie and his band of merry men (otherwise known as guides) were simply an amazing bunch of fellows, all of whom worked incredibly long and hard for their clients. There were a whole series of class V rapids we negotiated in the rafts. The two children in our group were able to ride some (not all) of these rapids. In addition to rafting, we also did kayaking, rappelling (100 meters!) canyoning, etc. This company has 4 riverside camps built with amazing ingenuity. And each of these had hot tubs, which were all piping hot when we arrived at each camp. Robert and his guides are excellent cooks as well, and his clients are well provided for in this area.
Although there is always some risk with outdoor activities, I was really impressed with Robert and his guides emphasis on safety. We all had lessons on what to do if the raft flipped or we found ourselves underneath the raft or other similar circumstances. Oar rowing was explained to us. Great care was taken to make sure the rappel was done safely by all.
